A Reflection: The Collective Womb Bears Witness
Black = Being Black = Community. It means you are a collective — Black Diaspora, the Black experience.
Mantra: I want to be Black in every lifetime.
It's not only about your skin color, because Black people come in a variety of shades and mixes and cultural differences — Black Diaspora.
I've never felt less valuable for being Black. I've felt grounded, pride, strength, love, courage, and fearless on roads less traveled.
Long ago, in my youth, I felt less powerful because I was a woman. Though I am not so old, I am older — bearing witness to nearly five decades; in my age I feel like earth, wisdom, centered, self-aware, observant, mystical, a compass for younger women. I tell the stories and point the way ahead, and they walk before me.
I AM WOMAN. I AM A BLACK WOMAN. WE ARE COMMUNITY.
